MANCHESTER
Manchester claims to be the original modern city centre! Since the first Industrial Revolution it has been at the leading edge in innovation and creativity. With this rich heritage at its foundation, the city centre reflects an ambition to be in the front rank of cities in Europe and the world. It has built on its success and continues to strive to become a place defined by excellence in design, in quality, in diversity of offer. It is a place that inspires and excites.
Above all it is a unique place – a place that is both proud and welcoming to all who wish to come and make their contribution. Being “Mancunian” is a state of mind - a sense of belonging to the city!
Manchester’s city centre covers only around 1.5 sq miles and the vicinity now has a resident population of nearly 19,000 people. There are around 92,000 students enrolled in Manchester’s massive Further Education provision. Most of the city centre’s vitality is due to its visitors, with – on average - nearly 150,000 workers, 140,000 shoppers and 75,000 night time users, and over 7,000 over night stays per day, giving an average daily use of nearly 472,000 people per day, but at busy periods such as Christmas, shoppers alone can exceed 1.75 million per week.
